Official online national-pass purchases use JAPAN RAIL PASS Reservation. Confirm eligibility, duration, class and start date before paying, then collect the pass and reserved-seat tickets after arriving in Japan. Overseas agency Exchange Orders have different online reservation access and refund procedures.
JR Pass Seat Reservations: When to Book, Cancel and Collect
Travellers who buy the national pass through the official online service can reserve seats in JRPR before arriving in Japan. Select the purchased pass, then check departure and arrival stations, date, passengers, train and seats. Completing an online reservation and collecting the actual seat ticket are separate steps.
Collect Your Japan Rail Pass: Passport and Ticket Requirements
First identify whether you hold a purchase confirmation, an Exchange Order, an issued pass or a boarding QR. A national-pass confirmation or Exchange Order still needs collection or exchange; it is not a boarding ticket. Choose a pickup point that supports your exact purchase route, bring the required original passports, then check the issued pass and seat tickets.
