Check dated N’EX works notices#

Check day-of-travel service information as well. A dated works notice is separate from the ticket’s standing conditions.

Prices follow the official N’EX price and official Wide Pass price from the official operators. N’EX ordinary-class travel is allowed within the Wide Pass coverage area. Wide Pass terms

For example, if you travel from Narita on day one and return on day five, one 3-day pass cannot cover both journeys. Compare the round-trip ticket plus city fares against the Wide Pass plus a separate airport journey.

A round-trip ticket is not a 14-day unlimited pass#

Use the ticket first from Narita Airport toward Tokyo, then from the Tokyo area back to Narita. Your arrival and departure stations on the Tokyo side can differ. After leaving N’EX, you may transfer to an eligible JR train without exiting the ticket gates, but once you leave the gates, that one-way journey ends. N’EX travel order and transfer conditions

You cannot get off at Shinjuku, leave the gates to drop off luggage, then continue sightseeing in Shibuya on the same ticket. Pay separately for subsequent city trips with an IC card, a JR 1-day ticket or another suitable option. Check your airport name first so that you do not buy a Narita round-trip ticket for a Haneda Airport journey.

Purchase, airport collection and seat reservations#

  1. Select N’EX TOKYO Round Trip Ticket from the pass purchase menu at JR-EAST Train Reservation, or buy it at a designated Narita Airport counter.
  2. Present your passport and collect it at Narita Airport Terminal 1 Station or Narita Airport Terminal 2·3 Station. Do not plan to collect this product at a city station such as Tokyo.
  3. Choose dates, departure and arrival stations, and reserve ordinary-class seats, including your return journey. Allow for immigration and collection queues when choosing your first train.
  4. Check the ticket and seat details. On the airport return journey, recheck the reserved train and your destination terminal.

The ticket is for non-Japanese passport holders. Check the official page for airport collection counter and machine hours. N’EX purchase and collection guide

Changes and refunds depend on seller and collection status#

The validity period cannot be changed after collection or purchase in Japan. For an uncollected online purchase, check the reservation service’s change conditions first.

Your statusWhere and how to apply
JR-EAST Train Reservation purchase, not collectedApply online by 23:50 JST on the day before the validity start date for a fee-free refund. After that cutoff, eligible online refunds incur a fee and are available until 23:50 JST on the last validity day. Stations cannot refund an uncollected online purchase.
Collected online purchase, or ticket bought in JapanFor an unused ticket within validity, apply at the handling point of purchase; a fee applies.
Agency purchase, not collectedAsk the original agency about its conditions and fees.
Agency purchase, actual ticket issuedFor an unused ticket within validity, ask the handling sales point identified by the product guide; a fee applies.
Swipe horizontally to read the full table on a small screen.

No refund is available after a reserved train has departed. Cancel unwanted seats before departure. Do not assume that the unused half of a partially used round trip has a proportional refund. Check the official N’EX changes and refund conditions; a disruption notice alone does not establish refund eligibility.

A final comparison before departure#

List the two airport journeys, regional trips and city journeys separately. Compare fares for the same trains. A cheaper alternative may involve different transfers, luggage arrangements or a different route to your hotel, which can change the best choice. To compare ordinary tickets and other airport transport, use the guide to checking fares by station and date.

After buying, keep the confirmation email and check service information again before traveling. If there is a service suspension on your date, check pass validity separately from which trains will actually operate. Return to the Tokyo 1-day, Wide and JR EAST PASS comparison to choose a regional pass.
