What can you do at the airport counter?#
| Item | Official information |
|---|---|
| Location | Access Hall in the first-floor arrivals lobby of Fukuoka Airport’s international terminal |
| Hours | 09:00–17:00, open daily throughout the year |
| Eligible passes | JR Kyushu All Kyushu and Northern Kyushu |
| Available services | Exchange of vouchers purchased in advance from an agency or JR Kyushu’s official online service; collection of previously reserved seat tickets |
| Services not handled | New pass purchases, changes and refunds |
The JR Kyushu airport counter guide states these services and hours. Do not assume this counter also issues the nationwide JAPAN RAIL PASS or Southern Kyushu pass. For the nationwide product, check designated locations separately in the nationwide exchange and collection guide.
Your aircraft’s landing time is not the time you reach the counter. Immigration and baggage collection still take time, so allow for collection at Hakata if your flight arrives close to closing time. Rather than planning to make every new seat reservation at the airport, distinguish the officially listed collection service for seats already booked.

Prepare passports, exchange orders and the payment card#
| Purchase channel | What to prepare |
|---|---|
| Overseas agency exchange order | Original passports for every traveler + the agency-issued exchange order |
| JR KYUSHU RAIL PASS Online Booking | Original passports for every traveler + printed QR exchange voucher + the physical credit card used to pay for the booking |
| Paid online seat reservations too | Also check seat-ticket collection requirements, including booking details and the payment card |
Passport photos or copies do not replace the originals. Check that your name, start date and pass type match the booking, and do not publish your exchange voucher’s reservation number in public posts. This checklist follows the official JR Kyushu collection guide by purchase channel.
If you bought passes for several family members, compare each traveler’s passport and ticket together to reduce omissions. If the payment card has changed, for example after reissuance, check the card-related entries in JR Kyushu’s online FAQ before departure.
Collect at Hakata Station if the airport does not work#
The official hours for the JR Kyushu ticket office (Midori-no-Madoguchi) at Hakata Station are 07:00–22:00, open daily throughout the year. It sells and exchanges All Kyushu and Northern Kyushu passes. Its hours differ from the airport counter. Locate the JR Kyushu counter on the official Hakata Station map.
Longer machine operating hours do not mean first-time pass exchange is available for the same hours. Separate collecting your pass for the first time from issuing reserved-seat tickets using a pass you already hold. Product-specific counters are listed in the official collection-location table; Southern Kyushu is not collected at the airport or Hakata.
If you will board a long-distance train immediately from Hakata, allow for transfer time, counter queues, ticket issuance and the walk to the platform. The counter hours in this guide do not reserve a queue position or guarantee that you will catch a train.

Checks to make at the exchange counter#
- Confirm whether you bought All Kyushu or Northern Kyushu and identify the exchange voucher issuer.
- Present your original passport and the exchange documents required for your purchase channel.
- Read the name, area, start date and end date on the physical pass.
- If you booked seats in advance, also compare the train, date, departure station and seat on the reserved-seat ticket.
- If you need additional reservations or changes, confirm which counter handles them before moving on.
A pass does not automatically secure a seat on trains requiring reservations, such as Yufuin no Mori. See Kyushu pass reservation costs for the difference between Northern Kyushu’s included reservation allowance and paid online options.
Airport exchange and airport-to-city travel are separate#
Collecting a pass at the airport does not mean the airport subway fare is included. JR Kyushu rail passes exclude subways and buses, so budget separately for the transport you use from the airport to Hakata. The Fukuoka city and Northern Kyushu pass guide helps separate these parts of your trip.
If you intended to buy a new pass at the airport on arrival, first check which Hakata counter supports local purchases. If there is a problem with an exchange order already bought from an agency, the seller and JR counter may handle different issues. Have your purchase details ready when asking for help.
