Regional passes
08Tokyo JR Pass Comparison: 1-Day, Tokyo Wide and JR EAST Pass Prices
Compare the Tokunai Pass for a day of JR travel within Tokyo, the Tokyo Wide Pass for three consecutive days of trips around Tokyo, and the JR EAST PASS for longer journeys to Tohoku, Nagano or Niigata. Budget separately for subways and Enoden. A trip to Tokyo alone does not mean you need the nationwide pass.
Narita Express with a JR Pass: N’EX Round-Trip Prices, Pickup and Reservations
Compare the N’EX TOKYO Round Trip Ticket if you only need a return journey to Narita Airport, or the Tokyo Wide Pass if you will also take regional trains within three consecutive days. The N’EX ticket provides one journey from the airport and one journey back within 14 days; it is not an unlimited city transport pass.
JR West Passes and Kansai Airport Trains: Prices and Coverage
Start with Kansai Mini for short JR journeys around Osaka and Kyoto, Kansai Wide for trips farther afield to Okayama or Kinosaki, and Kansai-Hiroshima for travel from Shin-Osaka to Hiroshima. Sales of the former Kansai Area Pass ended on September 30, 2026; this did not end every other Kansai pass.
Kansai Mini Pass: Prices, Routes, Haruka Supplements and WEST QR
The JR Kansai Mini Pass covers eligible JR local and rapid trains for 3 consecutive days and costs ¥3,000 for adults or ¥1,500 for children. Haruka requires a separate limited express ticket, and Shinkansen travel is excluded. The paper exchange and WEST QR versions have different collection, activation and refund procedures.
Kansai Wide Area Pass: 5-Day Prices, Routes and Seat Reservations
The Kansai Wide Area Pass costs ¥12,000 for adults and ¥6,000 for children for 5 consecutive days. It includes the Sanyo Shinkansen between Shin-Osaka and Okayama, plus eligible limited express services such as Haruka and Kuroshio. It does not cover Shinkansen travel all the way to Hiroshima or Tokyo.
JR Passes for Hiroshima: Compare Osaka and Hakata Departures
For Shin-Osaka to Hiroshima, start with the Kansai-Hiroshima Area Pass; for Hakata to Hiroshima, start with the Hiroshima-Yamaguchi Area Pass. Both are 5-day products, but their Shinkansen coverage extends in different directions, so they are not interchangeable. For a one-way trip, compare individual tickets too.
JR Kyushu Pass Prices and Routes: Northern Kyushu and Fukuoka 2-Day Options
For journeys from Fukuoka to Yufuin or Beppu, start by comparing the Northern Kyushu pass. The All Kyushu, Northern Kyushu and Southern Kyushu rail passes differ from the Fukuoka-area 2-day mobile pass in both coverage and seat conditions. Also distinguish official online prices from standard agency and station prices.
JR Pass Exchange at Fukuoka Airport: Location, Hours and Hakata Pickup
The JR Kyushu counter in the Access Hall on the first floor of Fukuoka Airport’s international terminal handles All Kyushu and Northern Kyushu pass exchange and collection of previously reserved seat tickets from 09:00 to 17:00. It does not sell new passes or handle changes or refunds. Check the JR Kyushu counter at Hakata Station as an alternative.
Yufuin no Mori: Ticket Price, Timetable, JR Pass and Reservations
Yufuin no Mori is an all-reserved sightseeing train. Hakata–Yufuin takes roughly 2 hours 15 minutes; JR Kyushu publishes a ¥6,130 adult one-way fare example that varies by date. Eligible national, All Kyushu or Northern Kyushu passes cover the journey, but you must reserve a seat.
Hokkaido Rail Pass Prices: Buying, Exchanging and Refunding Sapporo Passes
Compare the 4-day regional pass for Sapporo, Otaru and Noboribetsu, a different 4-day pass for Furano, Biei and Asahikawa, or the 5-, 7- and 10-day Hokkaido Rail Pass for wider travel to Hakodate or eastern Hokkaido. Subways cost extra, and prices, exchange procedures and refunds depend on where you buy.
